Hubby's holiday free time on the farm is almost up. He will leave for LA again on Tuesday and wont be back for another 10 days or so. These long trips used to drive me nuts until the economy took a dump. Now we invite them. Plus when it's my turn to travel, I head West for a looooong time! I frequently purchase one way tickets and stay for as long as I need to. Occasionally I work, but my Kailyn is my priority during my trips. Last last time I was in LA I worked a whole week on a commercial for the 2010 US Census http://2010.census.gov/2010census/and didn't see Kailyn the whole time. I'm so blessed to have a man in my life who loves to take care of his children. He is away so much he adores switching roles when I go back to LA to work. I trust him impeccably and the kids love the time alone with their dad! My next trip is planned for Christmas day. I can hear it now.
"How could you leave your family during the Holiday?"
Answer:
"Very easily."

Last year I showed up at the family gathering on Thanksgiving day with my son in LA!
It was a surprise!
Thanksgiving is finally over...thank you God! I hate the Holidays away from my family. I'm a Grinch away from them I'll admit it. I'm sorry if this offends anybody, but I am absolutely heart broken away from my family who live in California. I know once you get married one is supposed to start their own holiday traditions. This has yet to happen. If not surprising my family on a whim I have conformed to the traditions of my hubs family. Right down to the part of NOT having one Italian dish on the table. YIKES!!
My Great Grandmother has been comforting me all the way from heaven after witnessing the treatment my eggplant received during this years Thanksgiving gathering. It sat alone on the darkened kitchen counter, and mocked later for not being a traditional holiday dish.
Holidays with the in laws have always been very relaxing. Always wonderful, I mean I don't lift a finger. Never asked to lift finger either. I feel bad not helping and this year I really wanted to COOK SOMETHING!!! So I made Eggplant Parmesan. (It's neutral right?) What ever the the occasion, my Italian family puts pasta, or some type of Italian dish on the table. It doesn't matter if it's a Communion, Easter, Christmas, baby shower, or Thanksgiving
there is an Italian dish on the table. It doesn't matter how many people are invited, or whose lactose intolerant, or vegan, there is ALWAYS an Italian dish on the table. If it's pasta, there has to be meatballs. If there are meatballs, well you'll have to put out some sausages. Yes of course there is still
room for turkey. and ham, and potatoes, and yams. The menu is never ending back home. This year without an invite, I opted to bring the lonely eggplant. Lonely it was until my Husband and I devoured it as a late night snack in less than 4 minutes. (Yes, this is normal behavior for he and I.) So the shunning of my eggplant has prompted me to make a stand. To host the next Holiday dinner or, skip town!
I'm opting for both.
Tomorrow we meet with my uncle and rock and roll legend for some fantastic Vietnamese food. You know I have to make my weekly appearance inside my Asian
market to hear them rave about my happy chickens!! http://hollywoodfarmfilms.blogspot.com/2009/11/vodkamom-stuff-about-me.html(Read about my chicken story here)
Surprisingly Kelly Keagy drummer of Night Ranger has yet another gig to play in Indianapolis this year for a corporate private party, so are going to meet for lunch tomorrow. I am so excited he called to let us know his window of availability for a visit. We probably wont be going to the show but how cool would it be if your bosses set up, Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger, the Nelson Brothers and Slaughter for your Christmas party? I think pretty cool!

Eggplant? For Thanksgiving? That is so wrong!! Motto for future reference: if it doesn't taste good with gravy on it, chances are it won't go well with traditional T-Day meals!
I dont know Yuri but Im sure I would love him. He needs to come to the SanGregorio/McCarley family Thanksgiving. We have never had a holiday without a pasta/stuffed shells/eggplant and or meatballs and sausage and peppers. We are true italian women and along with all the traditional thanksgiving feast, we have our own traditions. I promise turkey and stuffing looks and tastes just wonderful next to homemade pasta. As long as its all made with love and Im not cooking it, it all works! xxx
With my in-laws? caesar salad and plantains are just as at home as the turkey and potatoes! Why should a dish be shunned just because it's not "traditional"? That's a matter of opinion, I think. I would have dived right in myself. I can never resist a good Italian dish. Welcome to the Spin Cycle and never be ashamed of your dish! You brought something and got a really good (if heartburn inducing) (Yeah, been there..)midnight snack out of it!
