Oh my goodness gracious. I am so completely baffled by the threat of a SAG strike that may interrupt our household finances. For the past few months SAG has been holding the threat of a strike that's basis behind the motivation is utterly disgusting. We are living in an era where people are literally loosing their homes, cars, and in some instances, their children because we are living in a time where an economic crisis has jilted our Land Of The Free. The unemployment rate has risen from 6.5% in October to a 6.7% in November and continues to grow at a rapid pace.
The reason I am so baffled is because SAG is determined to cry and whine that they are not getting what they deserve where proceeds of video, web based media, and DVD sales are concerned. Our industry was riveted last year at this same time by the writers who were demanding the same thing. Our industry is just catching our breath again after swimming up to a level where our heads have finally risen above the flooding waters. The damage the last strike had caused and now SAG chooses to loom a strike over our heads for the same reason has brought a shock and panic within our community. We are amazed that such petty claims could occur and possibly put a ton of families out of work due to their insistence's of getting what they deserve.
People come on, I am not saying that you as union members do not deserve a percentage of the proceeds of the media you performed in, by all means get what you deserve. But now? Why now do you choose to fight for this right as our nation faces a economic crisis and is in the middle of a war situation? Why now, when families are just reestablishing a clientele basis that was lost during the last strike? Do you not appreciate the hundreds of people on set behind the camera who in turn spend their EVERY WAKING MOMENT OF THEIR PROFESSION, to make YOU look good, who make sure YOU sound good, who make sure YOU are lit perfectly so that the right side of your face does not appear as big as it actually is, or the ones who make sure YOU are rigged perfectly so you may look taller than you actually are. Do you have no consideration for the children of those who sacrifice time away from their parents who are trying to make ends meet in their household, to make sure YOUR project is produced, perfectly, and aired accordingly? Not including the amount of physical, and mental stress that is required to complete all of the above tasks mentioned.
With President elect Obama in office in less than a month, why not wait until he makes good with his promise to support this economic crisis by creating more jobs. Why not wait until people are back on their feet, or perhaps if you can find it in your heart to wait until AFTER THE HOLIDAYS EINSTEIN, that would at least enable those who might have had an OK Christmas, to have an AMAZING Christmas. SAG please stop being so self fish. Go dress a cold child, help build a house for the homeless, or work in a soup kitchen to put in prospective what it is you actually think you are missing in life.
